TCALL (Texas Center for the Advancement of Literacy and Learning) Administering Texas Fund Grants and
The Texas Center for the Advancancement of Literacy and Learning at Texas A&M University in College Station, TX, known as TCALL, was created in 1989 by the Board of Regents with the purpose of helping to reduce the incidence of adult illiteracy in Texas. As the state literacy resource center, TCALL’s purpose has evolved into responding to the needs of those who provide literacy services to adult literacy and family literacy learners in Texas. TCALL provides technical assistance, evaluation and grant administration for The First Lady’s Family Literacy Initiative for Texas grant program, and administers the Barbara Bush Fellowships. During natural disasters affecting the state, including past hurricanes as well as the flooding of the Rio Grande Valley, the Texas Fund and TCALL worked together to identify programs to receive one-time Disaster Recovery Grants. The charter of the Texas Fund will continue to allow for discretionary grants to be awarded when an urgent need arises.
