Carrying her mother's torch, former first daughter Doro Bush Koch brought this family tradition to her home state by founding the Maryland Initiative of the Barbara Bush Foundation for Family Literacy in 2004.

Doro and her good friend and sister-in-law, Tricia Reilly Koch, host this Celebration of Reading in Bethesda, MD, and with the participation of Barbara and George H.W. Bush in the program, the "family" aspect of the family literacy gift is always a highlight of the evening.  Guests can't wait to mingle with Doro and Tricia's families and the featured authors after the program at the buffet dinner.

The 2010 Maryland Celebration of Reading was held on May 18, 2010 at the Music Center at Strathmore. Authors for the event included A.J. Jacobs, Sharon Robinson, Christopher Buckley, Leila Meacham, Jennifer Thompson and Ronald Cotton.  This year's surprise author was David Rubenstein.

Doro and Tricia raised close to $1.1 million to fund local literacy programs and had close to 1300 in attendance.
