Every year, supporters gather in four US cities to celebrate the cause that Barbara Bush holds most dear - helping families learn to read, write, and comprehend. The annual fundraising event for the Foundation, A Celebration of Reading, is held in Houston and Dallas, Texas, and also in Bethesda, Maryland. The Foundation also participates in the Volunteer USA Celebration Florida, with proceeds supporting the Florida Family Literacy Initiative. Celebration of Reading Dallas 2010 The next Celebration of Reading Dallas will be held on Monday, November 8, 2010. Our first author confirmed is Leila Meacham. More author announcements to come soon! 2009 "Celebrations of Reading" Maryland: The 2009 Maryland Celebration of Reading was held on May 11, 2009 at the Music Center at Strathmore. Authors for the event included Kelly Corrigan, Doris Kearns Goodwin, Jeff Kinney, Chef Art Smith, Brad Thor, and Mike “Coach K” Krzyzewski. Houston: The 2009 Celebration of Reading Houston, held on April 23, 2009, was a tremendous success! Thank you to our many generous supporters and guest authors -- together, we raised more than $1.8 million supporting family literacy programs. Florida: The 2009 Florida Celebration of Reading was held on February 13, 2009 at the Hyatt Regency Coconut Pointe Resort and Spa in Bonita Springs. Authors for the event included AJ Jacobs, Edna Hibel, and more. Dallas: The eighth annual Dallas Celebration of Reading was held at the Meyerson Symphony Center on November 16, 2009. Authors for the evening included David Baldacci, Jeff Engel, A.J. Jacobs, Julia Reed and Louise Parsley.
