The Maryland Family Literacy Initiative
The Foundation's Maryland Family Literacy Initiative supports nonprofit organizations, public school systems, municipal agencies and educational institutions working to improve family literacy rates across the state of Maryland. Grantees are announced each spring at the Maryland Celebration of Reading, a special event sponsored by the Maryland Family Literacy Initiative.
2011 Maryland Grants Announced
Maryland Family Literacy Initiative has awarded grants totaling $504,450 to 13 local organizations serving low-income, low-literacy Maryland residents. Ranging from $40,000 to $50,000, ten implementation grants were awarded to nonprofit organizations and public agencies for the purpose of implementing family literacy programs in their communities. Winners were selected in a competitive process following the submission of proposals from a variety of organizations. Family Literacy programs work to improve the language and literacy skills of both parents and children and encourage a love of reading and education within families. Read More Here

Opening and closing dates for the 2012-13 grant cycle will be posted here within the next few weeks. Please note that for the first time, successful programs that were previously funded by the Maryland Initiative are being actively encouraged to apply!.
