The Barbara Bush Foundation brochure paints a vivid picture of what it is that the Barbara Bush Foundation does, upcoming activities we launch and support and the literacy programs we have funded through our national and state grant processes. First Teachers: A Family Literacy Handbook for Parents, Policy-makers, and Literacy Providers offers annotated "snapshots" of ten pioneering and promising family literacy programs. Successful Strategies in Family Literacy, is a publication of the Maine Family Literacy Initiative, a collaborative project of the Barbara Bush Foundation for Family Literacy and the Maine Department of Education. In the spring of 2001, staff began interviewing family literacy programs across the state to identify best practices and develop more specific guidance for potential applicants.
